Foot Neuropathy and Pain treatment with Laser Therapy

This summer, I had several patients come in the office for different issues with the hopes that the laser would help.  A couple of patients came in for hip pain and asked about if it would help their neuropathy and foot pain.  They both described their pain as a burning sensation in the bottom of their feet that makes their feet feel like they’re “on fire” by the end of the day.  I began treatments on their feet by using the diolase 10 laser for 3-5 minutes per foot with an initial treatment schedule of 3 sessions in one week.  An interesting side note is that both had a slight increase in pain after the first treatment which is completely normal.  The laser causes vasodilation which opens up blood flow to the feet and can cause that soreness.  Both patients had 6 sessions per foot and noticed a dramatic change in their pain at the end of the day.  I did have a couple of patients who only had minor relief of their foot pain.  My best estimate is about a 75% success rate with the laser treatment.  The great thing is the treatment is safe, relatively painless, and quick.  Proper diet, exercise, and foot care are also a big part of helping with neuropathy.  Give us a call at Helton Chiropractic to see if you are a candidate for Laser Pain Therapy.

  3. Jason i’ve looked into having the laser treatment done but my biggest fear is that it’s relatively new and i don’t know much about it.

What are the pros to having the laser treatment compared to the more conventional way?

    • Hi Colin, Laser treatment is really not new, there are literally thousands of articles published regarding the efficacy of laser therapy spanning 40 years. The main difference is that, like all technology, the price has dropped enough for independent practitioners to purchase the newer, more powerful lasers. I’d say the biggest pro for having the treatment is the ease and comfort of the treatment. There’s no pain involved and there are little to no dangerous side effects. What I tell my patients is that with such low cost and minimal side effects, there’s no reason not to try it. If it doesn’t work, you’re not out much money and at least you’ve seen what it might do before trying drugs or surgery.

  4. Any treatment for neuropathy that is safe and has a 75% success rate is certainly worth a try to ease the painful symptoms.

I totally agree that exercise and a good diet must go hand in hand to achieve the best results.
